Technical Overview

getbusi's provides central control and management of web browser based Internet access. The getbusi system provides a proxy cache along with getbusi's extensive feature list. The solution requires a dedicated server, with all client systems pointing their proxy settings to it. getbusi provides all the required software including the operating system.

Policies

The getbusi solution is policy based. Policies define the key areas that getbusi manages including:

  • getbusi maintained filtering lists
  • white lists
  • file types downloads
  • data limiting and control
  • bandwidth
  • management rights to reporting and general system properties
getbusi policies can be applied to users, groups of users or computers.

Integration

getbusi seamlessly integrates into Windows, Apple Macintosh and Linux networks. The getbusi system provides a proxy cache and supports the following protocols:
  • HTTP
  • HTTPS
  • FTP
  • GOPHER
Any client operating system that can run a proxy capable web browser can utilise getbusi. getbusi utilises the tcp/ip protocol for network communication. Unlike some other solutions, no software needs to be installed on client machines. The getbusi system is also flexible enough to peer to existing proxy cache devices.

Authentication

The getbusi solution can utilise existing security infrastructure. The security systems currently supported by getbusi include:

  • Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory
  • Windows NT Domain
  • LDAP services
  • Novell Netware
  • MAC OS X Open Directory
User and group information contained within these security systems is available via the getbusi system. Web access policies can be applied to users or groups contained in these security systems.

The getbusi solution provides seamless authentication in Microsoft network environments. This includes networks where security is provided via Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory or a Windows NT Domain and an NTLM capable web browser is operating on client systems.
